Description
Figure handmade by artisans from the island of Tenerife. They imitate the original figure of the “idol of Tara”, which was made by aborigins of Gran Canaria.
The idol of tara is an aboriginal anthropomorphic figure found on the island of Gran Canaria. The original is made of clay and it measures 27 cm. tall. It is possibly related to the cult of fertility. Its name refers to the town where it was believed to come from, Tara, in Telde, Gran Canaria.
Material
The artisans try to respect the ancient techniques made by the aborigines. Although they did it with their hands, the artisans do it with a lathe. However, the material is still the same used by the aborigines of Gran Canaria: the clay.
